2018 was the most successful year to date for the NBFI. We had records entries and spectators in what I can only describe as an awesome show.
Classes winners on the day were Rory O’ Connor, Cian Brennan, Martin Saunders, Tara O’ Grady, Lisa Duggan, Alexandra Byrne, Laura Gallagher, Don Maguire, Conor McCarthy, Akindele Oguntebi, Matthew Cooney, Keith Byrne, Kevin Byrne and Simon Collins.
Overall Winners were Cian Brennan (Men’s Open Bodybuilding), Alexandra Byrne (Trained Figure), & Conor McCarthy (Men’s Physique)
Guest posing on the day were our very own WNBF pro’s Stephanie Collins & Finbarr Murphy.
Representing us at this year’s UKDFBA International show was Conor McCarthy who was very unlucky not to place, Conor has a great physique but on the day was up against one of the best line- ups I’ve seen in quiet some time, with some added muscle he will be very hard to beat. Martin Saunders found himself in one of the most stacked classes of the day but held his own with his great condition, he needs to add some quality muscle to be competitive on the international stage.
Alexandra Byrne like Martin was in a very tough class, if she can add some muscle and bring a similar level of condition as the she had at the NBFI show she will quickly see herself move up the placings, she has the potential to be very competitive at this level, Cian Brennan finished 5th in what was a very tough class, he was in great condition, Laura Gallagher could have easily found herself winning this one in my opinion she brought a fantastic physique to the stage. I have doubt that you will see her achieve pro status in the next few years.
Next up was the INBF WNBF World Championships in Los Angeles where Simon Collins finished 3rd in the Light Heavy Weight class, Simon was in great shape and you could see he worked extremely hard since the NBFI show. He condition was on point, but he just needs to add some more muscle to move up the placings on the world stage.
Conor McCarthy in better condition than the UKDFBA competed in Men’s Junior Physique where he placed 2nd to the eventual overall Men’s Physique winner. He also competed in the Open Men’s Physique Short Class and finished in 8th place from a class of 13, some achievement well done. Laura Gallagher competed in the Open Bikini Short and finished in 5th place, she could have so easily found herself pushing for a top 3 place. She saved her very best for this show and like I said earlier she will be a pro in the not to distant future.
Cian Brennan competed in the Junior class where he came up against the UK winner Henry Manning, Henry carries a huge amount of muscle and also has some great condition so Cian was always going to struggle to beat him into 1st place. Cian brought a fantastic well balanced, well-conditioned physique, he also competed in the open Men’s Bantam Weight class where he finished in 3rd place. What a fantastic year he’s had. All I’ll say is watch this space…
Stephane Collins competed in her first show as a WNBF pro in the Pro Fit Body class and finished 3rd in a stacked class of 14, she could have so easily finished in 1st place but the Judges went for a slightly more muscled physique on the day. Her first pro win won’t be long coming that’s for sure.
If 2019 is going to be anything like 2018 then I can’t wait to be part of the journey. My only question is do you want to be part of IT? Sign up now…
